Just buying a domain, hosting and setting up WordPress doesn’t end your responsibility as a successful blogger, rather it’s very important to protect your hard weaved articles and contents from unauthorized access. Who could eventually turn your resources into some pieces of trash.
In WordPress, one of the most common type of hacking is a brute force attack. Which involves gaining unauthorized access to your login credentials by applying various combinations of usernames & passwords using different vulnerabilities detection tools by hackers.
Since in general WordPress creates two default login URLs either “yourblog.com/wp-admin.php” or “yourblog.com/wp-login.php” which creates an added room of ease for hackers to exploit.
So in this tutorial, we are gonna learn how to secure your website or blog by changing the URL of your default admin login panel.
Default admin login URLs can be changed both technically or as you have guessed this can also be achieved with the help of a plugin and off course we are gonna focus on plugin instead of technicalities.
There are several plugins to get the job done but as usual, we at Exynox always recommend the free and best way to fix your issues. So let’s get started.
STEP 1: Go to <Plugins> in your WordPress dashboard and select <Add New>.
STEP 2: Go to <Search plugins…>, type “WPS Hide Login” and hit enter.
STEP 3: Click on <Install Now> and wait for a while to complete the installation.
STEP 4: Click on <Activate> to activate the plugin.
STEP 5: Go to <Settings> in your WordPress dashboard and select <General>.
STEP 6: Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and under <WPS Hide Login> section in the blank space enter your desired WordPress login URL.
STEP 7: Click on <Save Changes> to complete the process.
Now when you try to access your WordPress Login Panel via your default or old URL it throws an error.
Enter your new URL for logging into WordPress dashboard.
CONGRATS!! your website or blog has now an added security level.
